Lesson Four: What do you do?

Lesson four covers the topic of work and occupations. Using the examples in this lesson's dialogue you will be able to form sentences to explain what you do and what you are doing in China. A list of major cities in China is also provided.

Conversation: 你 做 什 么 工 作?

A: nǐ zuò shénme gōngzuò?
A: 你 做 什 么 工 作 ?
A: What do you do ?
B: wǒ shì liúxuéshēng.
B: 我 是 留 学 生。
B: I am a foreign student.
A: tāmen yě shì liúxuéshēng ma?
A: 他 们 也 是 留 学 生 吗 ?
A: Are they also foreign students?
B: bù, tā shì dào zhōngguó lǔyóu de.
B: 不,他 们 是 到 中 国 旅 游 的。
B: No, they are travelers.
A: nǐ zài zhōngguó xué shénme?
A: 你 在 中 国 学 什 么 ?
A: What do you study in China?
B: wǒ xuéxí hànyǔ.
B: 我 学 习 汉 语。
B: I am studying Mandarin.
A: nà nǐ hànyǔ shuò de zěnmeyàng?
A: 那 你 汉 语 说 得 怎 么 样 ?
A: Then how is your spoken Mandarin?
B: wǒ shuò de yìbān, wǒ gāng kāishǐ xué hànyǔ hái bù dào yī gè yuè.
B: 我 说 的 一 般,我 刚 开 始 学 汉 语 还 不 到 一 个 月。
B: I speak so so, I am just starting to learn Mandarin and it hasn't been a month yet.
A: nǐ mēn dōu qù guò zhōngguó de nǎ xiē chéngshì?
A: 你 们 都 去 过 中 国 的 哪 些 城 市?
A: Which cities have you been to in China?
A: wǒmēn cóng xīān lái, zài zhè zhī qián hái qù guò chóngqìng, nánjīng, shànghǎi, kūnmíng hē xīzàng.
B: 我 们 从 西 安 来,在 这 之 前 还 去 过 重 庆、南 京、上 海、昆 明 和 西 藏。
B: We just came back from Xi'an, we have also went to Chongqing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Kunming and Tibet before.
