Lesson Six: Making an international phone call

Lesson Six presents a conversation with people in Chinese on the subject of making an international phone call. You are going to learn some very useful verbs and a few more new words in Chinese. Towards the end of the lesson are a few exercises you should do to consolidate the information you learned.

Conversation: 我要打国际电话

(在邮局里)

mǎlì: 玛 丽:	nǐ hǎo xiǎo jie, wǒ yào dǎ guó jì diàn huà. 你 好 小 姐,我 要 打 国 际 电 话.	Mary:	Hi Miss, I want to make an international telephone call.
yíng yè yuán: 营 业 员:	nǐ dǎ gěi nǎ ge guó jiā? 你 打 给 哪 个 国 家?	Postal Worker:	Which country do you want to call?
mǎlì: 玛 丽:	jiā nǎ dà. wǒ de diàn huà hào mǎ shì( ) sān èr yāo qī wū sì. 加 拿 大. 我 的 电 话 号 码 是 321754.	Mary:	Canada. My telephone number is 321754.
yíng yè yuán: 营 业 员:	hái yào bō dì qū hào. 还 要 拨 地 区 号.	Postal Worker :	You also need to dial the area code.
mǎlì: 玛 丽:	duō lūn duō de dì qū hào shì duō shao? 多 伦 多 的 地 区 号 是 多 少?	Mary:	What is the area code for Toronto?
yíng yè yuán: 营 业 员:	duō lūn duō de dì qū hào shì sì yāo liù. 多 伦 多 的 地 区 号 是 416.	Postal Worker:	Toronto's area code is 416.
	guò le yì huǐ er. 过 了 一 会 儿.		A little while later.
yíng yè yuán: 营 业 员:	diàn huà dǎ tōng le ma? 电 话 打 通 了 吗?	Postal Worker:	Are you connected?
mǎlì: 玛 丽:	xiè xiè dǎ tōng le. 谢 谢! 打 通 了.	Mary:	It's connected, thank you!
